I believe big fish will “cruise or roam” during dropping levels until they find the exact place he or she wants to spend a few weeks during usually late October, November & December. There are several reasons for this I believe. Soon water temperatures will effect oxygen levels and the “big-daddy” goes into a kind of hibernation phase. The big fish preserves his stored body weight until late season when he may have to travel long distances again to find scarce food and sustainable water conditions. Yes, I could hook a “Big-Daddy” when he in on the move, but probably only luck would cause this. Of course considering the rains, during late October to mid January big fish hold in a specific spot under a structure and a also maintain a territory where they kind of lounge about and do not venture more than a few meters from that spot. A bait fish or my lure must be in front of his face to get him to respond because experience tells him not to waste energy and stored weight until he has to. The fish is best preserved hanging from the boga with minimal hands on. Hang the lure which caught the fish on the camera side of fish for the photo which makes a reference to size of fish. I have received this public announcement e-mail by Paul Reese at Acute Angling about Rio Marie. Everyone has the right to know what is going on, I believe. Perhaps some one would be nice enough to translate the message or at least offer a detailed message of what this says in Portg.. I am ancious to hear Mr. Keuel's reply as to how this applies to Federal Law and the circumvention of of law by private agreement. ATTENTION KRUEL.....! Message context: I have waited to confirm all of this until all documents were finalized and all legal proceedings were in place. Here are the actual facts regarding the Rio Marie (Tucano) fishery First off, we are aware that River Plate is telling anglers and agents that it has the rights to fish the Rio Marie (Tucano) system this season. This is not correct. Acute Angling has a finalized contract for the fishing rights in this system, executed by the full association of regional indigenous communities and acknowledged and affirmed by FUNAI. The documents are available for your review on request. The communities have judged our compensation and cooperative mode of operation to be the most appropriate to their needs and based on their previous experience working with Acute Angling, their comfort level has justified finalizing this agreement. There is no other agreement and no other way of accessing this system. River Plate has no rights to the Marie. Although we have the right to allow RPO (or any other operator) to have access to the fishery, as of now, it is not our intent to do so. However, since it is a very large fishery, we reserve the right to share the fishery with a cooperating operation in the future. Until such time, we have made clear arrangements with the Federal Police to prevent entry of any other operation and their anglers upon our request if it will impinge upon our contractual rights. Illegal entry may result in arrest and imprisonment. If anglers are actually booking this trip with RPO agents, they will ultimately either be subjected to a bait and switch routine when access is denied, or otherwise disappointed when trying to enter. Anglers should be warned against committing to a River Plate trip claiming to fish the Marie. We will not permit unauthorized entry. Anglers (or agents) wishing to fish this system should book with Acute Angling or its agents to ensure access to this fishery. Secondly, last fall, a variety of rumors and even a newspaper article were circulated suggesting that Acute Angling was illegally operating in the system and that it’s operation had been seized by the authorities. This is also incorrect. The incident was actually an illegal act of piracy funded and led by River Plate Outfitters and its representatives, designed to discredit Acute Angling and incite friction between us and the local communities. This has backfired. The authorities came to the aid of Acute Angling, recovering the operation’s equipment and providing protection against RPO’s armed thugs. The facts have been provided via depositions and sworn testimony and criminal and civil cases are now in process. Our relationship with the communities has actually been strengthened by this crude effort at manipulation. We’ll provide further information as litigation proceeds. I hope this helps clear up the gossip and misinformation regarding this great fishery. I hope that uninformed anglers don’t find themselves trapped in an untenable situation by RPO’s blatant misrepresentation of the facts. Ok folks, here is what I was saying in English; I think it would be nice to have another option for fishing trips to the Rio Negro Amazonas. Booking a trip, often a year in advance and being tied to that specific week can be terriable when water levels do not cooperate. As most know the Old Rio Negro Lodge Hotel on the middle Negro is re-opening with new ownership soon and perhaps we may have other options. I would love to be able to pick up the phone and call the fishing manager and talk to someone about the week and fishing conditions when ever I chose to do that. If fishing was to my liking then I would like to be able to reserve the days which I want instantly and me and my fishing friends could get a flight from where ever into Manaus the following day or week? Several local air charter planes could get me from Edwardo-Gomaz into the air port at my hotel that same day and we could be fishing from a bass-boat the same day. I could stay and fish or relax for what ever days I choose then leave. That way I am not stuck to a predetermined scedule when fishing is bad for whatever reason. I & several friends would be happy to pay a slight premium hotel & hosting rate in order to be in control of when, and how my fishing trip is done. Just a hotel ran like a hotel with a capacity to accomidate fishermen from Sept thru Mar???????? And hopefully at a reasonable rate. YES some might say fishing the head-waters on contributing rivers is more attractive for a trip. (IF YOU WANT TO GO BE AN EXPLORER IN THE AMAZON and immagine you are the first man to throw into some spot, then you should jump on those head-water excursions and bring back a good story to your buddies.) In fact, those hooks we see advertized in promotions for exclusive access or unfished water, trying to sell us on more fish & possiable bigger Acu, are only that, A BAITED HOOK...! After my plus 28 years of Tucano fishing in the Amazonas I promise you that the middle Rio Negro is the best fishery for more and larger Acu than all the headwaters COMBINED and you will be fishing for 3 times the quanity of fish per hectare, (or square area) than in any upper stream. Remember Cichla Temenssis are travelers and yes SOMETIMES he may run up a stream, BUT he will go back to his comfortable zone and buddy Acu real quick, and the occasional BigDaddy up stream will be traveling pretty much alone up there. Just saying fellows, know your fish, know where and how he survives and you can turn fishing into more catching, with fun of 20/40 good fish-on fights per day, With a little luck and the correct conditions. So if we had a better way to get ourselves into the fishery, at the right time and conditions...........why not? Then we only have to shut down the commercial netting and God Damn soon, if we save Acu Fishing. It takes 8 to 12 years for a 4 kilo Acu to reach 11 kilos, and that under the best of habitate and natural conditions, sooooo, no need to say more. (Nomeou Rio Marie' e também falsamente chamou o Rio Tucano por alguns promotores) Sim este é o mesmo rio onde alguns pescadores também foram segurados também cativo ao ponto de uma lança por alguns nativos, durante várias horas. Em minha opinião não seria inteligente colocar me ou meus clientes fisicamente ou legalmente em perigo, nenhum de nativos poco-loco ou funcionários TUDOS LOCOS,,,, e soltar os custos $$$ e tempo da viagem talvez???????? Novamente, Unini uso exclusivo de pescas públicas…? Novamente a besta feia cria a cabeça dele com uso Exclusivo e tem acesso a certas áreas de pesca no Amazonas.
